The Story of This Rug
The Shah Abbas repertoire took shape in 17th-century Safavid court workshops: palmettes, lotus blossoms, arabesques, and scrolling vines spread across the surface in an all-over composition. Afghan artisans combine this heritage with the faded 19th-century Sultanabad palette associated with Ziegler merchants; the wool is dyed for weeks in plant extracts and gains an antique patina through natural washing.
Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug
- Originality: One of a kind.
- Durability of natural dyes: Fade-resistant and softens over time.
- Ghazni wool: Silky sheen.
- Asymmetrical Persian knot: Sharp detail.
- Investment value: Appreciates in value.
Color and Pattern
Large Shah Abbas palmettes are arranged in horizontal rows across the petrol blue ground, accompanied by lotus buds, pomegranate blossoms, and buds. The scrolling vine system covers the entire surface like a net. The inner border features a small floral frieze on a walnut-brown ground, while the outer border presents a meander and palmette band on an ivory ground. Accents of warm terracotta, golden yellow, and pistachio green create a striking yet harmonious contrast with the petrol blue.

Protect Your Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven and natural-fiber creations that add value to your living space for generations, you should adopt a careful maintenance routine.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid is spilled, timing is the most critical factor. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth and never rubbing, gently blot the liquid from the surface. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural lay of the fibers). Rubbing can damage the structure of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If you are unsure, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuum cleaners and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the reaction of natural fibers to light and prevent localized tone differences (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Noble materials such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For deep cleaning, seek assistance only from professional rug-care centers specializing in natural fibers.
